The market for public clouds is still dominated by AWS, Azure, and Google. Some businesses will, however, look at alternatives as cloud computing develops and changes.
Two of these cloud service providers are DigitalOcean and Vultr. Consider the differences in computing, storage, scalability, and Kubernetes support before choosing between the two.
Digital Ocean Vs Vultr
DO and Vultr : There work
Think of Vultr and DigitalOcean as a virtual private server (VPS) that provides virtual machines (VMs) on demand. A company will no longer need to host a server locally, install virtualization software, and then administer the environment.
Cloud engineers and developers that utilise the platform as a scalable lab environment are the main audiences for DigitalOcean.
Vultr and DigitalOcean both offer comparable server capacities and instance kinds from a VM and server perspective.
Droplets, a type of Linux-based virtual machine offered by DigitalOcean. The choice between Droplets with a shared or dedicated CPU is available to users. The platform also provides Droplets that are optimised for CPU, memory, and storage. In addition, DigitalOcean offers App Platform, a PaaS service.
Scalability and accessibility
Redundancy and global availability are important factors to take into account when selecting a cloud service. Vultr operated 22 data centres in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia as of the beginning of 2022. 13 data centres, located across North America, Europe, and Asia, were owned by DigitalOcean.
To provide workload scalability, both platforms use cloud load balancers. All load balancers have SSL certifications set. As an alternative, both platforms allow users to add their own SSL certifications to the environment to ensure secure traffic.
Storage
Both Vultr and DigitalOcean offer equivalent storage options. Block and object storage services are provided by both providers.
Users can mount SSD-based volumes that are required for high-performance applications using Vultr and DigitalOcean block storage. While DigitalOcean allows volumes up to 16,000 GB, Vultr only supports volumes up to 10,000 GB.
AWS S3 may be linked with both the object storage offerings from Vultr and DigitalOcean. While DigitalOcean's service only supports 250 GB and 1 TB of bandwidth, Vultr's object storage solution provides up to 1,000 GB.
Check to see if the storage type you want to utilise is accessible in the data centre where your workloads are running, whether you're using Vultr, DigitalOcean, or any other cloud provider.
